All-In-One plasterers hard at work

If you haven’t toured 19 Carter in a while, you probably haven’t seen the interior work done on the addition. Designed by Dan Barton of Maugel Architects and built by Doerr Construction, the addition is integral to the mission of 19 Carter. Not only does it house an accessible bathroom, a small office and an open staircase, it will enclose the lift to make both floors available to everyone.

This past spring, the experts at Pro Insulators, a division of National Lumber, installed spray foam insulation to the framed ceiling of the addition. Next, Tom Doerr staged the space and installed fiberglass insulation in the walls. While the staging was in place, All-In-One Plastering hung the gypsum wall board and mud and taped all the seams. They also primed the walls and ceiling. As with the downstairs space, the gypsum board and the insulation for the walls were donated by CertainTeed, a division of Saint Gobain.

Ronnie Owens painted the walls a soft yellow. That color plus the natural light from the large, custom Marvin windows ensures a bright space for future users of both the stairs and the lift. The façade of the building’s original exterior east wall has been repaired and painted, and remains as a unique interior wall in the addition. The two original windows have been sanded, re-glazed and varnished by Steve Huntley, to bring them back to their original luster. A large ceiling fan was installed to keep the air moving in warmer months and to keep the heat off the roof in the winter. The addition still needs some trim, carpet and light fixtures, but the work completed demonstrates our success at balancing the renovation of the historic building with our mission to “serve and welcome everyone in our greater community” at 19 Carter!Click on picture for larger view
